Where does distance begin on the map or in the skin?

Through the ancient gesture of weaving بافتن و دوختن (baftan va dukhtan) I explore the space between here and there, now and then.

As an artist moving between Iran to California, my body carries multiple temporalities, identities, and belongings.

Thread becomes both metaphor and material in this performance, sometimes measuring the 23 kilograms of what can be carried across borders, sometimes tracing the circular paths between memory and presence, always connecting what distance separates.

My grandmother's hands taught me that life happens through weaves of joy and suffering. Like her, I create patterns from transformation, turning the tension of temporary distance into a living fabric that holds both what I've lost and what I'm becoming.

Where does distance begin on the map or in the skin? I invite you to witness the answer unfold.

Between my right arm and my left,
a distance wider than oceans.

From head to heart,
each heartbeat translates
what the tongue cannot pronounce.

Between my front foot and my back foot,
time zones collapse
one planted in morning light,
the other still dreaming night.
